Conflict-Free Diamonds

Conflict diamonds are also known as blood or war diamonds, and are traded illegally to fund rebel movements and their allies in war zones throughout Africa, who seek to undermine legitimate governments. In 2003, the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) was established by the United Nations General Assembly to prevent 'conflict diamonds' from entering the mainstream rough diamond market. KPCS participating countries must ensure that any diamond originating from the country does not finance a rebel movement seeking to overthrow a UN – recognized government, that no diamond is exported to or imported from a non-participating country, and that every diamond exported be accompanied by a Kimberley Process certificate. Eternity Diamonds only deals in conflict free diamonds, and to this end we only purchase our diamonds from suppliers who are equally committed to adhering to the standards and requirements of the Kimberley Process.
